As part of WA Museum Boola Bardip’s Meet the Museum program – a monthly initiative that showcases the work of scientists, historians and curators – Tristan Simpson from the North West Shelf Flatback Turtle Conservation Program delivered a presentation highlighting the efforts to protect one of Australia’s unique marine species.
Twenty-five attendees gathered to hear insights into the program’s research and monitoring activities. The session explored how scientific data underpins conservation strategies for flatback turtles, outlined the major threats facing the species, and detailed ongoing efforts to mitigate these threats.
The presentation was well received with keen interest and was followed with a question-and-answer session, an opportunity to interact with a life-size flatback turtle model and an opportunity to view scientific equipment such as satellite trackers, PIT tags and flipper tags up close.
