The program activities are guided by the current North West Shelf Flatback Turtle Conservation Program - Strategic Conservation Plan, 2014-21. 

The plan was developed using a decision support system to prioritise activities in the most relevant and important areas. 

This initial plan covers foundational aspects of the program, such as: setting up frameworks for managing data, operational systems, transfer of knowledge, education and communication, designing comprehensive monitoring programs and filling knowledge gaps.
