Dr Mike Taylor
Research Scientist
Mike has worked for the North West Shelf Flatback Turtle Conservation Program (NWSFTCP) since 2026 and was previously a Technical Officer in DBCA’s Marine Science Program. His role includes leading research that supports the conservation and management of flatback turtles through the analysis of satellite tracking datasets.
With a background in turtle and fish ecology, Mike has worked across Australia investigating green turtle behaviour in Shark Bay, the Great Barrier Reef and Torres Strait. He has conducted extensive work on marine fish across Western Australia and published a fish identification guide for the Perth area.
In the NWSFTCP, Mike’s ecological background and proficiency with complex datasets are being utilised in his role managing DBCA’s marine turtle satellite telemetry datasets and conducting spatio-temporal studies of the flatback turtle.
