Eleanor (Ellie) has worked for the North West Shelf Flatback Turtle Conservation Program (NWSFTCP) since 2023. Her role includes planning and undertaking flatback turtle monitoring and fieldwork research activities across Western Australia.
Ellie began her career with the NWSFTCP over the 2023-2024 summer break on a university work placement. She participated in turtle monitoring at Delambre Island, while also assisting the broader DBCA Marine Science Program by participating in invertebrate survey fieldwork for the Ngari Capes Invertebrate Monitoring Program and conducting dugong aerial survey imagery analyses for the Shark Bay Dugong Aerial Survey.
In 2024, Ellie expanded her experience by working for DBCA’s Marine Fauna team undertaking whaleshark photo identification and data management, conducting water quality monitoring on the Swan and Canning Rivers with DBCA’s Rivers and Estuaries Program, and assisting James Gee from the NWSFTCP with fieldwork preparation and logistics.
Since mid-2025, Ellie has been employed as Technical Officer with the NWSFTCP while James Gee is on secondment. She is responsible for coordinating volunteers and casual field staff, organising travel and camp logistics and managing data for Delambre Island, Thevenard Island and Cape Domett fieldwork.
