James Gee

Senior Technical Officer

James has worked for the North West Shelf Flatback Turtle Conservation Program (NWSFTCP) since 2017. He is currently on secondment to the Invasive Species Program at the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions. Please direct any enquiries about field monitoring to Eleanor Wise until September 2026. 

With a background in marine science and coastal management, James began his career with the NWSFTCP as a volunteer in 2016, participating in the pilot monitoring of the program's two key index sites: Thevenard Island and Delambre Island. Since then, James manages the annual monitoring of these sites and others, coordinating volunteers and casual field staff, managing data and liaising with regional turtle monitoring programs. 

Projects

  • Providing technical and field support for marine turtle research projects across Western Australia
  • Coordination of annual flatback turtle monitoring at Thevenard Island, Delambre Island and Cape Dommet
  • Building partnerships with Traditional Custodian groups and Joint Managers across Western Australia
