Eco Beach in the west Kimberley is a medium size nesting site for flatback turtles. The rookery has been identified as a distinct genetic stock which makes it an important reference site for the NWSFTCP. Turtle nesting abundance, density and distribution across the beach is monitored using tagging and track count methods for two weeks every summer. The fieldwork is done with Nyamba Buru Yawuru (NBY) country managers and Yawuru DBCA joint management rangers. Originally run by Conservation Volunteers Australia, the NWSFTCP took over the monitoring in 2020.
